A few months ago, I read Marie Condo’s book, the life-changing magic of tidying up. And it was, indeed, life-changing for me. I became obsessed with the idea of de-cluttering my closet (to start with). See, years ago, I was a dress designer and have always loved clothing… which lead to my amassing quite a collection. The problem was that my closet had become so stuffed that I had no idea what I had and could never find anything to wear! Enter Marie Condo.
After becoming inspired by the book, I decided to methodically de-clutter my closet. Every weekend for ten weeks I made it my purpose to put aside some time for the project. And it was not fun. In fact there were several times that I thought about quitting, but I was determined and powered through. Each week I took on one category of clothing and using Marie Condo’s criteria (does this bring me joy today?), I was able to purge a substantial portion of my clothing.
As I completed each category, I felt lighter and actually happier, which fueled my energy to keep going. At the end of ten weeks, I had completed my closet as well as all of my dresser drawers, including all of my shoes and accessories. It was a big project, but I did it and I felt great.
This is the same feeling that I had after I decided to clean up my pantry. In support of changing my diet (and the diet of my family), I knew I had to clean out all the food items that we had accumulated that were not serving us anymore. I knew that the only way we would be able to make good, healthy choices on a continuing basis would be to have good, healthy options available at home … and to remove the ones that we wanted to stay away from. And this effort has paid off, as it has made our lifestyle remarkably easier to maintain.
I have spent the last few years teaching my clients how to do this, too, and we have seen great results. Their success made me think about how I could help even more people learn how to do the same thing. That’s how Start Me Up 2016 was born. I am excited to offer you the opportunity to join me for the inaugural class of Start Me Up 2016, a 4 week on-line course (with accountability built in) that will help you lay the foundation for a sustainable healthier lifestyle.
If this sounds interesting to you, I would love for you to join me and a supportive community of similarly situated people, all motivated to find their healthiest lifestyle. You can find out more here. And please e-mail me with any questions; I would so love for you to be a part of this life-changing course.
