The Whole Approach
When we struggle to feel healthy or energized in our bodies, it’s rarely from a single slice of your life. We are affected by the food we eat, the depth and breadth of sleep we get each night, the people we surround ourselves with, our levels of stress, our home environment, our own hang-ups and fears…The grocery list goes on and on. You can “solve” one piece of the pie only to become sabotaged by another. That’s why when we work together, we focus on the whole you—your body, your mind, and your spirit.

In my first session with Joanne she asked me to describe how I ate, and I have to laugh because I told her that I ate relatively healthily, and I meant it. Oh, what I had to learn. I did not even know what eating healthy looked like! I was utterly and positively stuck in my life. At 46, I had grown into a 60-pound overweight couch potato. Climbing the stairs left me winded (and that was the full extent of what I considered my “exercise” program!). While it sounds cliché, working with Joanne truly changed my life.What I value the most in working with her is how well she paces her instruction so that I can digest what I’ve learned (and I’ve learned a staggering amount!) at the pace that works for me. From the start, I knew I didn’t want a diet—I wanted a genuine lifestyle change, and that’s exactly what I’ve gotten. In less than 4 months’ time, I have dropped 4 pant sizes and I exercise 5 -6 times a week because—get this!—I want to. I cannot recommend Joanne highly enough.

Primary Food: You may believe that what you put in your mouth is what feeds you, but the surprising truth is that there’s much more to it than that. In our sessions, I open you up to the idea of nourishing yourself through fulfilling relationships, careers, physical activity, and spiritual practices. These “primary foods” will take first place in sustaining you on a deeper level, so what you eat becomes secondary in your journey to a healthier and more balanced you.
Integrative Nutrition Plate: The concept of the Integrative Nutrition Plate is an important one. This is a visual representation of the ingredients that create optimal health. I use it to show you not only what to eat (starting with local and organic produce, whole onion rutor omgomg grains, high-quality proteins, plant-based fats and water) but also what to consume in other areas of your life to finally feel full.
